A beloved comfort food that combines tender chicken breasts with a crunchy coating, creamy marinara sauce, and melted cheese, perfect for weeknight dinners or special occasions.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts (about 1.5 lbs total)
  • 1 cup Panko breadcrumbs
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese (plus more for topping)
  • 1 teaspoon dried Italian seasoning
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 large eggs (beaten)
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 (24-ounce) jar marinara sauce
  • 1.5 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • Fresh basil (for garnish, optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Lightly grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  2. Mix together the Panko breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, Italian seasoning, garlic powder, salt, and pepper in a shallow dish.
  3. Whisk the beaten eggs in a separate shallow dish. Set aside the flour in another dish.
  4. Pound the chicken breasts to an even thickness of about 1/2 inch if they are thick.
  5. Dredge each chicken breast in flour, dip it into the beaten eggs, and then press it into the breadcrumb mixture to coat well.
  6. Spread half of the marinara sauce evenly in the bottom of the prepared baking dish.
  7. Arrange the coated chicken in a single layer over the sauce.
  8. Spoon the remaining marinara sauce over the chicken, then sprinkle with mozzarella cheese.
  9. Bake in the oven for 25-30 minutes until the chicken is cooked through and the cheese is bubbly and golden.
  10. Allow to rest for 5-10 minutes before serving.
  11. Garnish with fresh basil if desired.

Notes

For extra flavor, feel free to add fresh herbs like thyme or oregano to the breadcrumb mixture. Don’t skip resting the dish after baking; this allows the juices to redistribute.
