A classic Italian-American comfort dish featuring crispy chicken breasts topped with marinara and melted mozzarella.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs (preferably Italian-style)
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 cup marinara sauce (homemade or store-bought)
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 2 teaspoons dried Italian herbs (oregano, basil, thyme)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Olive oil (for frying)
  • Fresh basil leaves (for garnish, optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Pound each chicken breast to an even thickness to ensure even cooking.
  3. Set up three shallow bowls: one with seasoned flour, one with beaten eggs, and the last with a mixture of breadcrumbs and Parmesan cheese.
  4. Dredge each chicken breast in flour, dip into the egg, and then coat thoroughly with the breadcrumb mixture.
  5. Heat olive oil over medium heat in a skillet. Fry each breast for about 4-5 minutes per side until they are golden brown.
  6. Transfer the fried chicken to a greased baking dish.
  7. Spoon marinara sauce over each chicken breast, followed by a generous layer of mozzarella cheese.
  8. Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden.
  9. Garnish with fresh basil leaves before serving if desired.
  10. Let the Chicken Parmesan cool for a few minutes, then serve and enjoy!

Notes

For a twist, consider mixing in some panko breadcrumbs for extra crunch. You can also load it with veggies by adding sautéed spinach or mushrooms between the chicken and cheese.
