A classic Italian-American dish featuring crispy chicken, marinara sauce, and melted cheese that’s perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 cup marinara sauce
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 egg
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Olive oil for frying
  • Fresh basil for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Generously season the chicken breasts with salt and pepper.
  3. In a bowl, crack and beat the egg until smooth.
  4. In another bowl, mix the breadcrumbs with the grated Parmesan cheese.
  5. Dip each seasoned chicken breast into the egg, then coat it thoroughly with the breadcrumb mixture.
  6. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat and fry the chicken for about 4-5 minutes on each side, or until they’re golden brown.
  7. Transfer the fried chicken to a baking dish. Spoon marinara sauce over each piece, then top with shredded mozzarella.
  8. Bake in the oven for 20-25 minutes or until the chicken is cooked through and the cheese is bubbling and melted.
  9. Garnish with fresh basil before serving.

Notes

For a lighter version, you can bake the breaded chicken instead of frying. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
