A rich and creamy French toast topped with a perfectly caramelized sugar layer, making it an impressive brunch centerpiece.

  • 1 loaf of French bread
  • 6 large eggs
  • 2 cups of heavy cream
  • 1 cup of milk
  • 3/4 cup of granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon of vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon of ground cinnamon
  • Pinch of salt
  • Powdered sugar for serving
  • Caramelized sugar for topping

Instructions

  1. Slice the French bread into thick slices and arrange them in a greased baking dish, overlapping slightly.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together eggs, heavy cream, milk, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and salt until smooth.
  3. Pour the egg mixture evenly over the bread slices, ensuring each slice is well-coated. Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or overnight.
  4. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the dish uncovered for 30-35 minutes, until golden brown and set.
  5. Sprinkle sugar over the top and caramelize with a kitchen torch until crisp and golden.
  6. Serve warm, dusted with powdered sugar.

Notes
