A simple and delicious baked version of the classic Chicken Parmesan, featuring tender chicken, crunchy breadcrumbs, marinara sauce, and melted cheese.

  • 2 large chicken breasts, halved lengthwise
  • 1/2 cup plain breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 cup marinara sauce
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 large egg, beaten
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
  • Cooking spray

Instructions

  1. Prep the chicken: Slice the chicken breasts in half horizontally and pound them to about 1/2-inch thickness. Season generously with salt and freshly ground black pepper on both sides.
  2. Set up a breading station: Prepare a beaten egg in one shallow dish and mix the breadcrumbs with grated Parmesan cheese in another.
  3. Coat the chicken: Dip each chicken cutlet into the egg, letting any excess drip off, then press both sides into the breadcrumb mixture.
  4. Preheat oven: Set your oven to preheat at 400°F (200°C).
  5. Arrange on baking sheet: Coat a baking sheet lightly with cooking spray and place the breaded chicken cutlets in a single layer.
  6. Bake: Place in the oven and bake for 20-25 minutes until the chicken is fully cooked and golden brown.
  7. Add marinara and cheese: Spoon marinara sauce over each cutlet, followed by a generous sprinkle of shredded mozzarella cheese.
  8. Final bake: Return to the oven for another 5-7 minutes or until the cheese becomes melted and bubbly.
  9. Rest and serve: Allow the chicken to rest for 5 minutes before serving hot with your favorite sides.

Notes

For added flavor, try using seasoned breadcrumbs or mixing different cheeses.
