An indulgent twist on a breakfast classic, this Hawaiian Roll French Toast is fluffy and sweet, perfect for brunch or a delightful morning treat.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 12 Hawaiian rolls
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • Butter, for cooking
  • Optional toppings: maple syrup, fresh fruits, whipped cream, powdered sugar

Instructions

  1. Start by slicing each Hawaiian roll in half horizontally.
  2. In a mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, whole milk, heavy cream, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, and salt until smooth.
  3. Dip each roll half into the custard mixture, soaking for about 30 seconds on each side.
  4. Melt butter in a skillet over medium heat.
  5. Place the soaked rolls cut-side down in the skillet. Cook for 2-3 minutes until golden brown, then flip to cook for another 2-3 minutes.
  6. Continue cooking until all rolls are done, adding more butter as needed for cooking.
  7. Keep the finished French toast warm in a low oven until you’re ready to serve.
  8. Plate with your favorite toppings and enjoy!

Notes

Use day-old Hawaiian rolls for better absorption of the custard. You can substitute heavy cream with half-and-half for a lighter option.
