Delightful homemade donuts with a sweet powdered sugar coating, perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 3/4 cup buttermilk
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • Powdered sugar for dusting

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine the flour, granulated sugar, salt, baking powder, baking soda, and ground nutmeg.
  2. In another bowl, whisk together the buttermilk, egg, and melted butter until well blended.
  3. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry mixture, stirring gently until just combined. Avoid overmixing to keep the donuts fluffy.
  4. Heat vegetable oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 375°F (190°C).
  5. Carefully drop spoonfuls of batter into the hot oil, frying only a few at a time until golden brown on both sides.
  6. Use a slotted spoon to lift the donuts from the oil. Place them on paper towels to absorb excess oil.
  7. While they’re still warm, dust the donuts generously with powdered sugar.
  8. Serve immediately and enjoy your warm, homemade donuts!

Notes
