Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb chicken breast, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 1/2 cup cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1/4 cup orange juice
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon ginger, minced
  • 2 green onions, chopped
  • Cooked white rice for serving

Instructions

  1. Begin by patting the chicken pieces dry with a paper towel and tossing them in cornstarch until completely coated.
  2. In a large skillet, heat vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it shimmers.
  3. Arrange the chicken pieces in a single layer in the hot oil and cook until golden brown, about 5-7 minutes, then transfer to a plate.
  4. In a small bowl, whisk together orange juice, soy sauce, sugar, garlic, and ginger until the sugar dissolves.
  5. Pour the sauce into the hot skillet and simmer gently.
  6. Return the chicken to the pan, toss to coat it in the sauce, and cook for an additional 2-3 minutes until the sauce thickens.
  7. Serve the chicken over cooked white rice, garnished with chopped green onions.

Notes

Patting the chicken dry is crucial for a crispy exterior. Adjust sugar to taste and add red pepper flakes for heat if desired.
