A comforting casserole that layers cheese-filled ravioli with hearty meat sauce and creamy ricotta, baked until bubbly.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 package of ravioli (cheese or meat)
  • 1 pound ground meat (beef, turkey, or sausage)
  • 1 jar marinara sauce
  • 15 ounces ricotta cheese
  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup mozzarella cheese, shredded
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 tablespoon Italian seasoning
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh basil for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Heat a large skillet over medium. Add the ground meat and cook, breaking it up, until browned and no longer pink. Drain any excess fat.
  3. Pour the jar of marinara into the skillet with the meat. Stir to combine and let it simmer gently for about 5 minutes.
  4. While the sauce simmers, whisk the ricotta, egg, Italian seasoning, and a good pinch of salt and pepper in a bowl until smooth.
  5. Spread half of the meat sauce in the bottom of a 9×13-inch baking dish. Arrange half of the ravioli in a single layer over the sauce. Dollop or spread half of the ricotta mixture over the ravioli.
  6. Repeat the layers with the remaining meat sauce, ravioli, and ricotta mixture. Sprinkle the top evenly with shredded mozzarella and grated Parmesan.
  7. Cover the dish tightly with foil and bake for 25 minutes.
  8. Remove the foil and bake another 10–15 minutes until the cheese is bubbly and golden.
  9. Let the bake rest for a few minutes before slicing. Garnish with torn fresh basil if using, and serve warm.

Notes

For a vegetarian option, omit meat and add layers of sautéed mushrooms, spinach, and zucchini. For gluten-free, use gluten-free ravioli or thin layers of sliced eggplant.
