Transform your breakfast routine with this delightful French Toast Casserole, featuring thick slices of bread soaked in a luscious custard and baked to perfection.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 loaf brioche, challah, or French bread, cut into 1-inch cubes
  • 6 large eggs
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with butter or nonstick spray.
  3. Spread the bread cubes evenly across the prepared dish.
  4. Whisk together the eggs, milk, sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, and salt in a large mixing bowl until well combined.
  5. Pour the egg mixture over the bread cubes, pressing down lightly to help the bread absorb the liquid.
  6. Drizzle the melted butter over the top of the bread.
  7. Allow the casserole to sit for about 10 minutes to soak up the mixture.
  8. Bake uncovered for about 40 minutes or until it’s puffed up and golden brown.
  9. Cool slightly before serving warm with maple syrup, powdered sugar, or fresh berries.

Notes

For the best flavor, allow the bread to soak overnight in the refrigerator. You can substitute whole milk with almond milk or use gluten-free bread if needed.
