Chicken Shawarma is a vibrant, flavor-packed Middle Eastern dish made with marinated chicken, fresh vegetables, and warm pita bread.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb chicken thighs or breasts
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp ground cumin
  • 1 tsp ground coriander
  • 1 tsp ground paprika
  • 1/2 tsp ground turmeric
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Pita bread or wraps for serving
  • Salad ingredients (lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, etc.)

Instructions

  1. Make the Marinade: In a bowl, combine the olive oil, minced garlic, cumin, coriander, paprika, turmeric, cinnamon, salt, and pepper. Mix well until you have a rich, fragrant marinade.
  2. Coat the Chicken: Add the chicken to the bowl and toss until each piece is well coated in the marinade. For maximum flavor, let the chicken marinate for at least 30 minutes.
  3. Heat Things Up: Preheat your grill, oven, or stovetop based on your cooking choice.
  4. Cook the Chicken: Grill the chicken for about 6-7 minutes on each side until fully cooked or bake it in the oven at 400°F for 25-30 minutes until cooked through.
  5. Rest and Slice: Once cooked, remove the chicken from heat and let it rest for a few minutes. Then, slice it into strips to showcase the beautifully marinated layers.
  6. Assemble and Serve: Place the sliced chicken in pita bread or wraps and top generously with fresh salad ingredients like lettuce, tomatoes, and cucumbers for that perfect crunch.

Notes

For an extra burst of flavor, drizzle with tahini sauce or spicy garlic sauce. Serve with chilled beverages like mint lemonade.
