A comforting and flavorful dish featuring chicken breasts in a rich, creamy garlic sauce. Perfect for quick weeknight dinners or impressing guests.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 large boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
  • 3 teaspoons Italian seasoning
  • ⅓ cup all-purpose flour
  • 4 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 ½ cups chicken broth
  • 1 beef bouillon cube
  • 1 teaspoon low sodium soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • ½ teaspoon dried thyme
  • ½ teaspoon mustard powder
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 10 whole cloves garlic, peeled
  • 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup heavy cream

Instructions

  1. Pound the chicken breasts to an even ½-inch thickness and season generously with salt and pepper.
  2. In a shallow dish, mix together the flour and Italian seasoning, then dredge the chicken in this mixture to coat lightly.
  3. Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the chicken and sear for 4-5 minutes per side until golden brown. Remove the chicken and set aside.
  4. Reduce the heat to medium and add the unsalted butter to the skillet. Once melted, add the garlic cloves and sauté for 2-3 minutes until fragrant.
  5. Sprinkle the remaining flour over the garlic and whip it together. Cook for about a minute.
  6. Gradually whisk in the chicken broth, scraping up any flavorful bits from the bottom. Bring to a simmer and stir in the bouillon cube and soy sauce until dissolved.
  7. Add the onion powder, thyme, and mustard powder, and let simmer until slightly thickened, about 5-7 minutes.
  8. Return the chicken to the skillet, cover, and let simmer for 8-10 minutes until the chicken reaches an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C).
  9. Stir in the heavy cream and Parmesan cheese, mixing until blended into a creamy sauce. Adjust seasoning as necessary and serve hot.

Notes

For a lighter version, use chicken breast without breading or substitute half-and-half for the heavy cream. You can add vegetables like spinach or mushrooms for additional flavor.
