A quick and flavorful Greek chicken gyro recipe with a lemon-herb marinade, perfect for family dinners or casual get-togethers.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 chicken breasts
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Pita bread
  • 1 cup yogurt
  • 1 cucumber, grated
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice (for tzatziki)
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced (for tzatziki)
  • Fresh dill (optional)

Instructions

  1. Whisk together the olive oil, lemon juice, minced garlic, oregano, thyme, salt, and pepper in a bowl until well-combined.
  2. Add the chicken breasts to the marinade, ensuring they are thoroughly coated. Cover and let marinate for at least one hour, ideally overnight.
  3. Preheat your grill to medium-high heat. Grill the marinated chicken for 6-7 minutes on each side until fully cooked and juices run clear.
  4. Mix together the yogurt, grated cucumber, lemon juice, minced garlic, and dill (if using) in a bowl while the chicken is grilling. Season with salt to taste.
  5. Slice the grilled chicken into strips. Serve wrapped in warm pita bread, generously topped with tzatziki sauce.

Notes

For added flavor, consider adding smoked paprika to the marinade. Letting the chicken rest after grilling keeps it juicy.
