A scrumptious blend of flavors and textures that transforms classic breakfast ingredients into a hearty dish for gatherings or family mornings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 slices of bread (preferably brioche or challah)
  • 4 large eggs
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup ham, diced
  • 1 cup turkey, diced
  • 1 cup Swiss cheese, shredded
  • Powdered sugar for dusting
  • Jam for serving (e.g., raspberry or strawberry)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13 inch baking dish to prevent sticking.
  2. Cut the bread into cubes and layer half of them evenly at the bottom of the prepared dish.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, sugar, and vanilla extract until smooth and well combined.
  4. Pour half of this egg mixture over the bread cubes in the dish, ensuring they absorb the liquid.
  5. Layer the diced ham, turkey, and shredded Swiss cheese on top of the egg-soaked bread.
  6. Add the remaining bread cubes, then pour the rest of the egg mixture evenly over everything in the dish.
  7. Gently press down on the bread to ensure it soaks up the egg mixture.
  8. Cover the dish with foil and bake for about 30 minutes.
  9. After 30 minutes, remove the foil and let it bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until the top is golden brown.
  10. Once baked, dust with powdered sugar and serve with warm jam on the side.

Notes

Let the casserole rest for about 10 minutes after baking for easier slicing. You can prepare it the night before and let it soak overnight.
